A Writer's Journey With Jeff

An important aspect of good writing is that it be logically consistant. The ideas presented have to make some sort of sense with the internal logic. I saw an example of this not being respected on daytime television.
The show: Port Charles. This has been a popular spin-off from the soap General Hospital.
Yes, it is a soap opera, and they don't have a regular habit of being examples of good writing - but this show has in one summer held a time travel storyline, and currently is running one with vampires. Yes, the Bela Lugosi blood-suckers.
This is the sort of element that schlock-show Days of Our Lives has used for years... but ABC has been building a shared "universe" for GH with All my Children, Loving (years ago; it was cancelled), and One Life to Live. All use a real world setting (not counting the ocassional haunting, or evil twin, or other silly standards)... suddenly, they have a corner of their world where the natural laws no longer apply... as a result, it feels "off".

If you're interested, my first review is online at RPG Action. I've been mostly hard at work on the second issue of my newsletter. I publish it this coming Sunday. As most other publishers do, I've been carefully checking over my facts, spell-checking, tweaking the page format, the layout, etc.
So this is what a book-house publisher can go through.
